Outside, minimize. Put protests on the Mall or other prominent locations around the US. Farmers hurt by tariffs, scientists hurt by funding cuts, veterans hurt by government sledgehammers.

Take the fight outside the chamber. All elected democrats should remain present to demonstrate unity. Outside, mobilize. I would ensure that Democrats have a war room ready to fact-check Trump’s claims in real time and flood social media and news networks with corrections.

No tearing up speeches, shouting, or walking out. These actions may feel cathartic but often backfire.

The goal should be strategic resistance, not emotional reaction. Trump will use the SOTU to rile up his base and push his agenda. Democrats must counter with discipline, clarity, and strong alternative vision for the future—one that resonates with the American public rather than just their own base.
