You don’t think “Love me I’m a Liberal” uses “liberal” as a generic insult? Interesting interpretation.

You may be right, but I was responding to Hayes asking “why do people use ‘liberal’ as an insult?” When we do, it’s because we see Dem leaders as what Dr. King called “white moderates,” the greatest obstacle to progress who see themselves as sensible. For decades they have been called liberals.

I agree, but it’s not the semantics that matter. Call Dem leaders “centrists,” “corporate dems,” “moderates” or anything else; it’s their enthusiasm to prioritize corporate interests over the needs of people that matters, and since they call themselves liberals, most will continue to do so.

One of my favorite quotes

If we say that Clinton was “a centrist, not a Democrat,” then we have to say the same thing about every leader of the Dem party for the last 35 years. Kind of a distinction without a difference, wouldn’t you say?

It’s not that I think these ghouls are “liberal” in any meaningful sense of the term; it’s just what they call themselves. Or at least they did when Clinton, Obama et al were opposing marriage equality. As for what they call themselves now, who cares?

As another commenter pointed out, leftists generally use the term “liberal” in the way Dr. King used “white moderate.” Another good example is Phil Ochs’s “Love me, I’m a Liberal.” If you don’t know it, it’s easy to google.

Not going to debate semantics-the important thing is to understand that the Cuomo/Obama/Clinton/Pelosi coalition, that generally claims the mantle of “liberal,” is the enemy of progress and justice and the best friend of big money.

I would not speak for others, but was impressed with Mamdani’s skill in creating a broad coalition of diverse communities who then collaborated to create a politics of positive change for ordinary people. This is the way.

It works in every advanced country on Earth except ours, so call it what you like. But it’s long past time for our healthcare system to help sick people instead of corporate investors and CEOs.

It was Hillary Clinton who famously said “Medicare for all will never happen.” So no. And fwiw, I don’t care about labels; I care about people and hate corruption, which is why I despise corporate Dems like Clinton.

They are happy to crush campus protests during a genocide, because their guy is the one doing it. It's pretty goddamn obvious why people on the actual left despise them. If you don't get it, man, I don't know ...

They happily backed challengers to progressive incumbents Cori Booker and Jamal Bowman but endorsed anti-choice Henry Cuellar against Jessica Cisneros. They promise that "Medicare for all will never happen."

Man, please tell me you're not really this obtuse. "Liberals" were the Clyburns, Clintons, Obamas, Bidens, Pelosis, etc. who rallied big money and party institutions to beat back the "threat" of Bernie in 2016 and 2020.
