I think there may have been interviews where he said this was going to be the most faithful adaptation (which it was). I think there’s fans of the novel who for some reason felt betrayed by Branagh’s version, and just want a vanilla one for one adaptation of the novel.

This is Christopher Columbus syndrome. It wasn’t until fairly recently Mary was given full credit for her work because of sexism. 200 years of men being unable to fathom how an 18 year old women wrote this novel. Even her revised version of the book feels like sexism made her make changes.
