The NTP has confirmed - following a ground/drone investigation - that a downburst caused damage rated up to EF1 at Mitchell, ON on July 24. The worst damage was to a drive shed with maximum winds estimated at 150 km/h.

Today marks the 40 year anniversary of the deadly tornado outbreak in Southern Ontario. Over a dozen people died including 8 in Barrie from a powerful EF4 tornado with winds topping 400 km/h. The day would be remembered as "Black Friday".

Missing all these aurora events, since about December onwards due to the near-constant cloud, just reinforces how good we had it in Southern Ontario through '23-'24... a remarkable, fortuitous run.
