I wrote a book on Blaxploitation Cinema! Ya damn right! It's called BLACK CAESARS AND FOXY CLEOPATRAS: A HISTORY OF BLAXPLOITATION CINEMA. Available at bookstores, libraries and even an audiobook (read by moi). If you want to get a copy, ask yo' mama!

The KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN end credits card that read "For Fred, Terrence and Chita" got to me. I saw Chita in it on Broadway.

I have a 5:20 am train to Boston tomorrow morning so I can participate in our annual GlobeDocs series. I also have SIX articles due this week (two are up now) and I'm covering the NYFF closing night film on Friday, Bradley Cooper's "Is My Nose On?"

Wake me when this week is over.

I'm always interested in reading a rave review from @mattzollerseitz.bsky.social, even if I don't agree about the movie. It's funny, because when I left TRON: ARES last night, I thought "Matt will enjoy this--it's his kind of messy."

I love when I'm right. Read!

TRON: Ares movie review & film summary (2025) | Roger Ebert
“TRON: Ares” is spectacularly designed, swiftly paced, thoughtfully written, and directed within an inch of its neon-hued life.

Part of what I said in my NYFF coverage (full review runs next week)
"“Nothing is supposed to make sense” is a more apt phrase to describe this spineless attempt at a conversation-starter. Nora Garett’s screenplay plays as if she spun a Wheel of Fortune loaded with provocations and kept landing on bankrupt. Maggie is Black solely so she can accuse Alma of racism. Maggie is also a lesbian who’s in a relationship with a nonbinary person the movie treats like garbage. Hank has problems with consent. Alma is an angry drunk in a hilariously passive-aggressive marriage with Frederik (Michael Stuhlbarg, the best thing in this debacle)."

I can take credit for that headline. Thanks!

This is why I can never run for President. Every other sentence I say begins with "these/those/that/this muthafucka(s) is [adjective]."

That soundtrack is a banger. And I saw it on IMAX. I'd take a nephew or niece to see it in IMAX if they wanted. I've sat through far worse more than once.

Goofy singing "Closer" wouldn't do it for me, either.
odienator.bsky.social
Wait until you have to eat the Subway tie-in "Ares" footlong!

People are a lot meaner to this movie than I was, and I'm not sure why. It's not good, but it's nowhere near as bad as y'all are saying it is.
odienator.bsky.social
It didn't train on my book, either! 10 Oscars? At least the dumbass robot didn't say it cured the racisms.

Star: Box office is not important! Don't believe the box office! Box office! Box office! (In Al Jolson voice) 🎶BAAAAAHHHHX AWWWWFICE! Wah wah wah!! 🎶

(English translation of her most famous song)

🎶Dominique, a nique a nique,
This song is filthy and in French
It's raunchy and it's fun
If you only knew the truth
it would give you all the proof
that I'm not really a nun!🎶

(Sister Grace, Odie's former nun teacher, beats him with ruler.)
