I just want to lurk on social media without feeling the desire to burn it all down #exhausted

The idea of trying to cultivate a vibrant social media following again fills me with existential dread but tbh I like having a little space on the internet where I can be like,”yeah, I’m still here, existing! Take that, world!”
lol @alamodrafthouse.bsky.social faq re: the QR code rollout. The last reason to go there is over, so cancelled my season pass. Unsubscribed from emails. Have a few tickets worth of gift card $ if I really need to see something but never ordering food or drinks again. drafthouse.com/news/our-shi...

Listen, I tried. Ever since my father passed in 2019, I’ve greeted each new year hoping it’ll be better than the previous year — but it was either just as bad or worse. This year, I was like, “Not fooling me for the 5th time in a row! Jan 1st is just another Thursday!” But evil finds a way.
a woman says she just wants a bathtub and a long extension cord ..
Alt: The iconic Moira Rose from the TV show Schitt’s Creek dramatically says “I just want a bathtub and a long extension cord.” 2026 is already the worst, amirite?

The historian side of me is feeling tingly reading the current news. And not in a good way. My niche was modernism in the arts which meant largely focusing on that period between the world wars and, while politics wasn’t my main focus, let’s say I don’t like the soundbites I’m hearing.

If this doesn’t get congress to actually do their jobs, I don’t know what will. This administration needs to be burned to the ground. Evil, greedy leeches that kill innocent people to hide the fact that their idiot geriatric boss is the worst pedo human-trafficker in recent history.

Haven’t settled on what to watch tonight but will hopefully have better vibes at midnight than last year.
Mum had a hankering to re-watch the Harry Potter films over the winter break and tonight is the Goblet of Fire.

The clock struck midnight when Voldemort returned. Trying to pretend it’s not portentous, but, um…

Happy New Year y’all. Hopefully it’ll be a magical one without too many Death Eaters.

Was struggling to come up with the phrase “finger food.”

I could only think of “hand snacks.”

I kind of like my phrase better.

Belated Happy Christmas to everyone that celebrates or just gets to enjoy a day off. Spending it pet-sitting and binging Netflix while enjoying tamales that I pulled out of the freezer (bc I hate actually cooking while house sitting). I’m happy to be alone and not stressed out by other people.

Xfinity is the WORST. They have a monopoly in our neighborhood and keep raising the price every year, but when I try to go to THEIR website while using THEIR internet, it never works. I hate it here. Please, Santa, bring fiber internet to this neighborhood so I can leave Xfinity behind for good.

Reached that part of winter where any lotion boasting “24 hour hydration!” is more like 2 hour hydration. Max.
a man is standing next to a glass case with a face on it that says moisturise me moisturise me !
Alt: Cassandra from the Doctor Who episode where Nine and Rose go to watch the end of the world and she’s just a thin sheet of skin stretched out in a frame, demanding: “Moisturize me, moisturize me!”

Last night of pet-sitting thus the last night of Netflix, which is perfect timing so I could watch Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man. The mystery twists weren’t as mysterious for me this time, but Josh O’Connor is a delight. Also very proud that I immediately clocked the JGL easter egg.
a man in a tuxedo and bow tie is crying while sitting in a crowd .
Alt: A tuxedo’d and very handsome Joseph Gordon-Levitt smiling (hello, dimples!), winking, and nodding his appreciation that I can recognize his voice anywhere. I am not ashamed of this super power. (He’s probably smiling and acknowledging the camera for some fancy awards show, but let a girl dream, okay?)

I know we’re all mad at them right now but I am pet-sitting this week (my fave grumpy old man chihuahua) which means I can binge all the Netflix (because I haven’t subscribed in years but this house has it) and I had no idea they made a movie of The Thursday Murder Club (and with top-tier cast!).

Who do I have to bribe to get a Muppet’s Pride & Prejudice made with similar loving care as the Muppet’s Christmas Carol? Just imagine Mr. And Mrs. Bennet played by Kermit and Miss Piggy

Delicious leftovers! Brought to you by Costco, the savior of Thanksgiving this year. Not pictured: the Costco pumpkin pie for dessert.

Had a job interview today (yes, still looking, because this economy is trash) and was totally unprepared for all the MAGA paraphernalia in the lobby. I had already checked in with the receptionist and was just sitting there like, “…oh. Oh my. I don’t know about this…”

Got back from a holiday this week (thankfully before things got too intense with flights!) where I enjoyed being unplugged from the world. I also forgot about photos because I was living in the moments, but here is my one attempt at the sunset.

Watching The Rainmaker tv show as a lazy way to pass the Sunday afternoon with Mum and spending half my time going “their accent is WEIRD” and googling the cast to find out they’re actually British or Irish.

I was really tempted to resub to Hulu this week (after cancelling it months ago after being laid off and tightening the budget) because Only Murders In The Building is one of my favorite shows but turns out my desire for free speech is greater than my love for a TV show.

The newest season of #Taskmaster UK has aired! I am excited to laugh with 5 new contestants. But I just remembered I haven't watched the latest two eps of TM NZ so there are some priorities first (btw love that Paul has relaxed and allowed himself to be smiley this series!)
a group of people are sitting on a red carpet in front of a red wall with the words taskmasternz on it
Alt: The cast of season/series 2 of Taskmaster New Zealand sitting in the studio set. One contestant, David Correos, runs over to hug the Taskmaster Assistant Paul while Taskmaster Jeremy looks on in amusement. Season 2 is maybe the best season of Taskmaster NZ, possibly the best season of Taskmaster, period. Highly recommend.

Clinging to positivity like I’m hanging off the edge of a cliff but the current administration and news cycle keeps stomping on my fingers trying to make me let go and drop into the cavern of despair.

Finally getting around to doing what we’d planned to do when we first moved into this neighborhood (right before Covid shut things down): check out local restaurants. This Thai place is definitely worth a return. I nearly cried because I’d forgotten how much I love a good green curry.

I’m finally figuring out what the heck y’all are chattering about tonight but it’s surreal and bewildering trying to piece everything together solely from posts that escaped containment due to their vagueness (because no trigger words muted them).
I’ve long muted particular names and certain key words to keep my feed sane so I feel like that Community gif of Trey walking in with the pizza when I idly decided to doomscroll just now.

Went to the Kpop Demon Hunters sing-a-long today and some kind soul was handing these out! Felt like going to a real concert with the handmade freebies 🥰
