Yeah, don't hold your breath for the ending, it is utterly baffling on every level, including gameplay-wise.

There is a high point which manages to salvage part of the narrative but it doesn't come until after the true ending (which itself is dozens of hours after the first ending).

And don't get me started of the visual ASMR that is that green cue slotting perfectly into your visor. Unfortunately it seems it's bugged on modern resolutions (or maybe it's just the mod) and is displayed much smaller than it should be.

There are some strokes of genius in game design that, for some reason, are never replicated or iterated upon, like Thief's focus on light and dark.

X-Wing Alliance's hit prediction (the *ping* sound and green circle at the end) is one such thing. It's a rush of adrenaline every time.
