I don’t think there’s an equivalent in the US but basically, the president is the head of the country so he’s the one that elects the government, he is responsible for defense (chief of armies) and international relations he represents the French Republic

3. So yes the president is still present, in France the parliament can force the president to quit but only under specific conditions stated in Article 68 of the French constitution and it has never been applied yet

2. in reaction to that the parliament (most specifically the left-wing) decided to vote a “motion de censure” this motion dissolves the government so the prime minister and the other minister have to quit and the president need to elect a new government.

1. Basically, the parliament was not ok with the prime minister who had earlier tried to pass a law about the budget by 49.3 (an amendment that allows him to pass a law without a vote)
