It was entirely corporate mismanagement. The whole story of Veilguard’s development hell going all the way back right after DA:I’s release is one top-down corporate failure after another unril all the real talent behind DA was gone.

Can’t speak to changes in early access, but post-launch, Larian patched some things, added dialogue, made Minthara to recruit, but the story/character writing, worldbuilding, and art style never changed. Veilguard had fundamental issues in those areas that couldn’t be fixed in post-launch patches.

DA just needs to go to someone who knows what makes a great DA game. A studio willing to look back and appreciate DA:O and DA2 would be a good start. I’m not one of those peeps who are like “DA:O only!!” but it seems the series had an identity crisis after 2. I love DA:I, but even then, it was off.

I’m not going to hate on Larian just yet. Seems like all the haters coming out the woodwork to jump on any opportunity to take back some semblance of superiority after Veilguard came out shitty. I don’t like AI in its current form, so that sucks, but Larian makes good games.

The idea that Larian would swoop in and save Dragon Age was just wishful thinking in the ven-diagram of people who LOVED BG3 and DA, but honestly, I was never on that bandwagon to begin with. Larian makes good games, but what makes Dragon Age great isn’t what makes Larian games great. Also, fuck AI
