Yeah, but I would have just not put books in the image in the first place or named specific authors who pirating the work of is non-obejectionable

This isn't an account I normally ever see the timeline of - I only use it for dunking purposes. It seems that I accidentally followed a garbage starter pack. Solved that by unfalling all
officalcriminal.bsky.social
Wait, what the fuck, what garbage starter pack did I follow that put him on my list

Fixed, thanks

Imagine voluntarily stealing from authors who make fucking nothing - steal all the garbage Malcolm gladwell stuff you want but pirating from less commercially successful authors is the same thing is training AI on people's art - straight theft that makes people's lives worse.

MS Store does not require custom AP.

Nope, super duper wrong on that - as anyone who has shipped a mid-sized title that uses advanced anti-tamper in the last three years can verify for you. Making piracy dramatically worse does, in fact, drive a non-zero amount of sales.

Please don't pirate books, unless the author writes the most mainstream garbage imaginable. :(

Silksong has a DRM free variant but it also has weird (and very custom) DRM on the Microsoft Store version - not sure why that exists.

Silksong was also 'an event game' that wouldn't meaningfully benefit from strong AP in the way that some other games have.

As someone who knows more than a little bit about how fraudsters think and how real world fraud works, this is basically stealing from people who have actual subject matter knowledge and replacing them with simplistic systems that - once a fraudster masters - instantly auths all fraud.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is 'I wish I could pay for this stuff without paying for Nathan Grayson's writing, which isn't for me'. >.<

Anyway, great piece, really liked it. Not sure what to do with these thoughts and feelings. It's complex for me - my instinct is to want more stuff like this, but I don't want to pay Bret Stephens salary, you know?

I think that's a core problem with subscription driven businesses that no one has really sorted out - not everything has to be for everyone, but how do you make people feel comfortable spending money for things that bother them?

@lukeplunkett.com The 'Trying To Get A Job In Video Games Right Now Is Like Crawling Through Hell" piece is incredible and deeply moving. It gives words to a nightmare that I've been faintly aware of but could not fully visualize.

Singal is one of those people who - if he were to pass away - the world would immediately become brighter and more full of life.
officalcriminal.bsky.social
Singal consumes oxygen that could be used by useful people. Allowing him to remain on Bsky is a choice - the correct choice is to bar him from the platform and sue him if he accesses the platform.
officalcriminal.bsky.social
Yeah, I guess we are different. I don't share those views (except for disliking AI) so I couldn't understand your motivations. Now I get it, despite still disagreeing.
officalcriminal.bsky.social
Same. I don't get it. Just seems oppositional to the standard (just using GitHub or at least GitLab) for reasons that I can't comprehend.
officalcriminal.bsky.social
I guess I'm curious - is there missing functionality with GitHub or something?
officalcriminal.bsky.social
But why go through all this work? What's the point? GitHub is fine, no?
officalcriminal.bsky.social
Fucking rat ass dad. Free that man, he didn't do nothing
officalcriminal.bsky.social
Hey, dipshit: that's not how WW2 was won
officalcriminal.bsky.social
Preach. Charlie Kirk deserved worse and hell deserves better than him.
officalcriminal.bsky.social
Oh! Yeah, I agree with you.

I did not know filter list updates didn't need approval! I thought they did.
officalcriminal.bsky.social
??? uBlock Origin never allowed 'approved' ads through AFAIK?

Not going to use an ad blocker that needs Google's approval to update lists - that's too easy for anti-adblock to deal with - but I will switch browsers instead :(
