Encouraging and enabling communication in whatever form is always a good thing. It does not stunt development but allows each individual to develop at their own pace while reducing frustration and frustration-related dysfunctional behaviors. Empower, don't deprive!
Today in Hell Yes, Research: "While we can’t say with any certainty whether a particular child will ultimately become an oral communicator, we can be pretty confident in saying that AAC [Augmentative and Alternative Communication] won’t hurt."

Setting the record straight on AAC and speech
In which we refute the myth that AAC hinders oral language development. Hang on, though… slinging citations won’t convert most skeptics. Bring your curiosity and empathy, too.

A lesson on fallacy: Qualifications to become an FAA air traffic controller are rigorous. The idea that if you "eliminate diversity req, then you can focus on competence" is a classic example of false cause fallacy- implying that one thing causes another when there is no actual causal relationship.

If you're autistic, you deserve boundaries. If you're not autistic, please pay attention to and respect your autistic person's boundaries—even if they are expressed physically or via scripting (e.g., quoting a TV series) rather than saying "no" directly.

How is learning about the Tuskegee Airmen a DEI initiative?
The U.S. Air Force has removed a video about the Tuskegee Airmen from its basic training curriculum at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland following Trump’s executive order banning federal DEI initiatives. The Tuskegee Airmen were pioneering Black pilots renowned for their service during World War II.

The thing to understand about Trump is like in his first term, he doesn’t want to govern. He doesn’t want to learn. He wants to campaign and look good.

Republicans know this. So there are battles going on right now to take control of the actual process of governing.

If I just start printing '"NUTS!" -- McAuliffe' on stickers, t-shirts and coffee mugs, what are the chances that it would inspire people to look it up, learn and reuse the term to tell people to "Take a flying sh**!" when obstacles look insurmountable....

What I want most for my autistic son: Other people accepting him on his terms, and welcoming him into the community—so I can feel less anxious about his safety and well-being as he moves through the world now, and also in his future without us by his side.
