Noki was already trying to kill off maemo before Elop- the intel/nokia meego was incorporating both moblin and maemo for this reason.
Elop just shot things in the head faster. He started 09/10, by ~11/10 nokia started pulling hardware from meego infra, and around 12/10 meego work froze, IIRC.
