it's not the same! now it needs your credit card and charges you $1000 for 'stealing' from them by disabling their siphoning of your work into their AI models

I'd rather use the portable CS3 5mb executable i've had for 15 years. the one they accuse me of being a criminal for using, somehow.

do you think those games just materialize out of the ether? he's said a few times in interviews that the production cycle was a spooling deal where something made 3-4 years prior comes out at the right time continuously. those he wrote and planned, before leaving, as gaiden supported IW in release

aside: i love when doujin artists are character designers in OVAs

they would sell the episode rentals on xbox live arcade marketplace using those screens from the opening as reason you should buy it (it's totally porn (it wasn't))

shoutouts to Desert Punk for pretending that random woman's ridiculous chest was the point of the show too (it should have been)

Or rather, it's proof of how evil it is to make it all reliant on your input, then peace out with apparently no notes on how to continue past that. I really hope Stranger Than Heaven is transformative and moves RGG away from yakuza since the goodwill is bleeding dry on a per-year basis.
December 14, 2025 at 8:11 PM
that said, the remakes and rehashes are tiring and it's proof of how vital Nagoshi really was to the process, since normally the next yakuza game is a few years in dev already whenever one drops.
December 14, 2025 at 8:10 PM
i can see the RGG problem pretty widely as "they clearly had no idea what to do when Nagoshi cut and run for a new studio" because NO actually-new games have been announced or even teased in the RGG line since 8 released. Just the pirate spinoff that was clearly an asset scramble, and STH (big ???)

semi-relatedly, seeing bandai tamashii figures at Target for $40 for popular shonen IPs with crusty ass QC and intentionally limited parts (because the 'good version' is import only for $100 still) gives me hemorrhoids
December 12, 2025 at 7:50 AM
plus it is funny that while GSC's overall quality has only wavered to soured, the combination of rising interest in popular IP figures and industry inflation means $100 for a figma has nothing to do with quality, lol. at least RT got pricey because old man yamaguchi is Designer now.
December 12, 2025 at 7:49 AM
seriously, it feels like the only way to get a low price on a new toy is to either jump on a semi-recent chinese company looking to sell at a lower price to gain goodwill (Snail Shell, LADo) or get stuff priced for what you get with Hasbro and Mattel
December 12, 2025 at 7:47 AM
worth saying, though. the older (i think 5-inch rather than 6.5 inch?) pair of these two by yamaguchi himself were only like $22 or so in their original releases in like. 2009 or so? I would have paid $40 with $15 shipping as a teen, had i pulled the trigger on them. Now they're luxury-priced.

been having pretty regular hard crashes between cutscenes failing to load, and honestly, the first two episodes feel a bit messy in pacing design, but it's all admirable. what confuses me is the "where's the game?" complaints. Arcade Mode is RIGHT THERE in the main menu! That's what they want!

many such cases with Sunrise works, including Gundam. just a lot of potentialman energy to how they get these cool ideas for shows and do cool designs but then when it comes to Actually Writing a Script all of them kinda blow air through their teeth and just board with no plans hoping for the best
December 9, 2025 at 5:35 PM
the designer whose name escapes me passed away this year (more famous for doing tokusatsu horror monster designs like for Guyver, et al) and it hurts because i always hoped he'd come around to do more anime designs after Hells happened
December 9, 2025 at 5:09 PM
bro is calling it and done after the lowest amount of effort ever seen (and he executed poorly but it was seen as 'good enough')?
December 9, 2025 at 4:56 PM
one of my favorite final interviews with the guys before finishing the series, when talking about the history of their work and how they started, the two very explicitly say "please forgive the first season, but thank you if you like it" and that line genuinely fixed my heart regarding S1
December 8, 2025 at 5:56 AM
somehow playing both release SMTV and SMTV:V made me a V:V apologist but i don't think I'd feel that way if I didn't play the original release first
December 8, 2025 at 5:34 AM
I'm more surprised he's working with Beartooth who was contacted to make the music but credit where it's due popularity-wise lmao
December 7, 2025 at 2:11 AM
original idea was definitely "as tall as all might except without being filled in" but the anime shortened him to make it less weird lmao

if you're interested in the new director's cut, buying this version for $11 then the old version 'director's cut upgrade' for $15 is cheaper than just buying the new director's cut outright
