Nice young man/your dad/messy bestie. Graphic designer. Film buff. Sometimes internet video man. ADHD poster child. Filthy casual. The softest boi.
1975’s The Black Bird, the comedic sequel to The Maltese Falcon, has lurched out of OOP obscurity and suddenly appeared on Tubi. It is by no means good, but I am glad that I finally have a chance to access and watch this otherwise inaccessible movie.

Tonight’s movie of choice is Giù la testa aka Duck, You Sucker! aka A Fistful of Dynamite. This Ennio Morricone soundtrack lives in my head.

The one bright side is getting more of Mary Jo Pehl as Pearl. She was always a delightful Mad.

The recent news of Rifftrax/MST3k is kinda bittersweet for me. I’m not a huge fan of Mike Nelson, and I really liked the goofy sincerity of the Netflix/Gizmoplex seasons. A lot of Rifftrax content leaves me cold, and I’m worried it’s just gonna feel like more of the same.

Like Steve Martin’s cards but with a disclaimer for funky brain chemistry.

In a world of Jared Letos, be a Frank Langella.

Finally saw the second season of The Big O. I was hooked on the first season back when it aired on Toonami, and somehow completely missed the second entirely. Thank god for the internet, since it’s abominably out of print.

I finally sat down to watch the first two episodes of Starfleet Academy and enjoyed the ride it took me on. Second chances, new challenges, and building a better tomorrow are the themes on deck, and those are definitely in character with Star Trek to me.

That thought was inspired by see this clip and imagining Knox going on a similar in-universe tangent while Clark just stands there hiding his face in his hand.

I feel like in this world of expanded nostalgia continuity that it’s a shame we haven’t seen Clark and Lois interact with Vicki Vale and Alexander Knox.

I’m not the absolute greatest at Mario Kart, but sometimes I am a lethal Green Shell sniper. ☠️

The open collar feels right. Sincere. Out of time. More of this, please.

This is just an issue of personal taste, but I have never liked a raised collar on Superman. At best it feels awkward, and at worst it looks fascistic.

What actor's expression in a movie will stay with you for the rest of your life?

But then, surprise, the plan to Make Earth Great Again turns out to be just another grift, and the whole world gets ripped to pieces for the people in charge to achieve their ultimate goals of consolidating their power at the expense of everyone else. Sickeningly relevant.

Wish World actually straight up terrified me: A conspiracy theorist incel grifter is given access to reality warping powers and makes a world of enforced “good old days” where any deviation from his version of a proper society gets you disappeared when someone narcs on you out of fear.

Just finished the latest new Doctor Who episode right before my ISP had an outage. Feeling very lucky, as cutting out of that cliffhanger early would have done me an injury.

Why, yes… I may in fact be making terrible custom subtitles for Lionman II: The Witchqueen…

Personal MCU headcannon: Sam Wilson’s wing tech is based on acquired CIA schematics for Condorman’s wingsuit, and I dare Kevin Feige to embrace this madness.

All my best to everyone celebrating #TransDayOfVisibility and all the love in the world to all the brave folks who are unabashedly and unashamedly themselves in the face of fear, hate, and violence.

I just realized my last few posts have nothing but negativity, so in the spirit of delight I will share that this year is the 50th anniversary of Deep Red, a movie that blew my mind and introduced me to a wider world of cinema. Palpable terror and tremendous style abound.

For as much as I enjoy Statham, I’m highly icked out by the marketing for A Working Man. The blue collar worker vs. human trafficking narrative feels like it’s targeted at hardcore right-wing audiences who thought Sound of Freedom was some kind of cinematic triumph.

Just in time for the release of the new Looney Tunes movie, WB completely pulls the scattershot sampling of remaining classic shorts off of Max. Streaming bites us in the ass yet again.
