Happening today!

@theblochian.bsky.social, Exec. Director of the Open Library of Humanities, will be speaking at today’s N8 event about the @ojcollective.bsky.social and OLH

OLH is proud to be a founding member of OJC, and to have helped inspire its scholar-led, community-owned publishing model.

We were at the #DIAMAS conference in Brussels yesterday, sharing our work on scholar-led, community-owned open access!

OLH publishes 33 #DiamondOA journals, supports journal flips from commercial publishers, and co-founded @ojcollective.bsky.social to bring publishing back into the academy

There has been a lot of discussion over the years on the rising cost of academic journal subscriptions to libraries. While commercial publishers report growth in profits, how should libraries respond to the increasing subscription costs?

Well, there has been a response: @ojcollective.bsky.social...

If we truly want a sustainable, more equitable, and more bibliodiverse Diamond OA future, we cannot defer this to some theoretical optimal time. The @copim.bsky.social community (inc. @openbookcollective.bsky.social) and our expanding networks, including @ojcollective.bsky.social are here to help!

Positive spin – things break down a little, but this undermines a slightly warping commercial logic that has dominated for too long, and we come out of this with creative, partnership approaches for future dissemination of scholarly content

Scaling up – a lot of revenue-driven publishers told me that only they could offer the scale the sector needed, yet at the same conference @ojcollective.bsky.social was launched and @oipassoc.bsky.social and @copim.bsky.social were out in force

We’re discussing a STEM collection. If we considered health journals we’d need partner organisations to curate diamond OA titles of journals looking to flip away from commercial publishers. Please email us if you have any contacts ([email protected]).

The Open Journals Collective (OJC), an equitable, sustainable, community-led alternative to the big deals & transformative agreements offered by corporate academic publishers, is just launched... a viable path toward bringing publishing back in-house at universities

👏 What an exciting initiative!

As an #OpenAccess publisher, we understand the importance of accelerating the advancement of academic #research while removing barriers for authors.

OJC is a big step toward sustainable, equitable #OA, and we look forward to seeing its impact 🎉

Some context here from my years of work on the Open Library of Humanities. Open Journals Collective is the opportunity we need to spread no-APC OA widely. Cancel Transformative Agreements (which aren't working). Use that money to fund this package of hundreds of OA journals.
