Does anyone know of any work on the life stories career criminals in the 17th-18th centuries told in courts? Strategies, which identities the presented when etc.? Has anyone analyzed these as (short) autobiographical texts?

Having followed a father-son pair of career criminals through multiple arrests, escapes and court testimonies in the Nordic countries c. 1710-1740, one thing that strikes me is how skilled they were when being interrogated.

6 januari 1667 - the Norwegian sailor Swen Roelofsen (20) is arrested and detained, he denies he had a snowball in his hand, nor did he throw that snowball to 'an important man from the government' ('sienelijk heer in Reegerrigh'). #Amsterdam #17thCentury #OTD

Yesterday I stumbled upon the examination of the cunning woman Karen Erichsdatter in 1660, or as the records say: "the woman by the name of Karen Erichsdatter, who is called the wise woman."
