An amazing result out of Ben Setterholm’s PhD thesis hit the arxiv. Using sub-au imaging of the inner disk of HD163296 using CHARA, Ben found a hot spot at the dust destruction wall orbiting 2x slower than expected, possibly shepherded by an unseen giant planet.

From an olbin post today by Bruno Lopez:
"On 3 March 2025, we lost our esteemed colleague, Prof. Dr Christoph Leinert, who passed away at the age of 84 in Heidelberg."

Along with this young star research, his work on speckle interferometry and VLTI-MIDI will leave a lasting mark on our field.

CHARA's imaging of the suprisingly-spotted star Polaris -- and its shy companion -- was highlighted as one of the most downloaded articles of 2024.
Though the North Star appears to be an unwavering single star, it’s actually a variable star belonging to a triple star system. This year, researchers reported a new mass estimate for the North Star and discovered spots on its surface. aasnova.org/2024/12/16/s... 🔭🧪
