As always Charley thanks for the positive vibes in the new year! I too remember the days when the farm system was bankrupt under the Wilpons and this was the constant cry of Mets fans. Looking forward to positive changes in 2026- LGM!

If I’ve learned anything in the last month about the current state of Mets fans it is that the haters are gonna hate regardless of the numbers. Projections are just that, but still appreciate the bright spot in these cold times, both hot stove and seasonal 🥶

As if the players who just departed were so consistently good at meeting that benchmark, which is also why they haven’t won the division outright since 2015 🙄

Assuming this is a precursor move to getting Bellinger then yes. This effectively guarantees him playing time in either LF or at first base along with Polanco. We were never going to get much for McNeil anyway with his age/contract. As with the other recent moves this creates flexibility.

He was the American Harry Styles of his day, or maybe a Joe or Nick Jonas? It was all about the heartthrob factor and less about the quality of the tunes. His older brother David Cassidy was on The Partridge Family.

Pete’s biggest flaw was trying to field balls that should have been left to the second baseman. Mets are making up for it by having two second baseman playing 1st and 2nd. Plus they could still swing a deal for Contreras/Nootbar.

They just made it a teensy bit further than I expected in 2024 lol

I still harbor most of my trauma from 22. I was glued to every game those final series, and I really thought if those were our guys that was their time to shine. And they just all came up so short. I couldn’t fully invest myself in the 2nd half of 24, since I assumed the result would be the same.

This is becoming clearer by the day. Mets fans wants to reminisce on the nostalgia of 2024, but really now we are feeling the pain of the rebuild that should have begun then. The problems of the end of ‘22 and ‘23 were never really fixed, including the core four.

Also better than a first base platoon of McNeil and… somebody 🤷‍♀️ plus he’s a righty.
December 11, 2025 at 9:06 PM
I wouldn’t give up the farm for him, but the Mets might be a good suitor for a less painful package since they can eat the money and he’s already said he’s willing to waive his no trade. I’ve never been high on Clifford since we got him, so he’s not really blocking anyone IMO.

I actually don’t hate the Contreras idea other than his age. Underlying metrics still seem strong, phenomenal bat speed. Also, if you look at his spray chart most of his HRs last year were left side so the short wall there in Citi might benefit him. Posted a 6 OAA at 1st last year.

Definitely watch this one on YouTube. One of, if not THE, greatest calls in baseball WS history. The legend Vin Scully: youtu.be/7ujwjqIldwU?...

Definitely can’t replace Pete in a single player, but he would be a better option than a platoon of Vientos/Mcneil at first.

Also if you look at his spray chart most of his HRs last year were pulled to the left side, so the short wall party porch in LF at Citi would probably benefit him. Underlying metrics are still strong for his age, phenomenal bat speed. Plus positional versatility.

He’s not the worst option. I don’t love the age, but he has only 2yrs guaranteed at about the same as what we would have had to pay Pete on a much longer deal, with an option year ‘28 at a significant discount. And he was actually worth 6 OAA at 1st base last season.

Well said Charley! Many fans might not want to hear it today, but I certainly appreciate it. Got to keep looking forward, not back.

And I know Stearns isn’t popular around these parts and certainly he can be criticized but I don’t think Mets fans should be crucifying him for this as opposed to Diaz himself.
December 10, 2025 at 5:25 AM
It seemed more concise to put it here with what Donna said above. But I stand by it- good riddance Edwin. I would rather take my chances with Williams who wants another chance to pitch in NY and has something to prove.
December 10, 2025 at 5:23 AM
If the initial offer had been a complete lowball I could justify being upset with Stearns/Cohen but they remained open to matching the Dodgers offer. They weren’t pinching pennies. Diaz made his choice whether it’s to be with his brother or for other reasons.
December 10, 2025 at 5:12 AM
YES! Diaz was rumored to be in the mix for the Dodgers long before the Williams signing- were the Mets just supposed to wait around until he eventually left anyway with no backup plan? Diaz turned his back on a team and a fanbase that supported him for an easy WS ring.

You and me both. More than wasting money; I have a bigger problem with Marte taking a roster spot when the Mets, for once, have a wealth of young talent waiting in the wings.
