Perhaps the Craft Sequence (and the follow up Craft Wars) by Max Gladstone? At some point in Earth's near future, ancient gods woke up and magic became real again. Humanity struck back by inventing magical lawyers who resolve legal cases with wizard duels backed by the fabric of reality.

The RNG is real frustrating! You can curate your pools to a limited amount with an unlock but you can't remove any of the starter stuff which means at a minimum you have 13 tomes, 11 or 12 of which you probably don't care about. The tuning is also wack; no buffs, only nerfs.

It is an angry book and if you do not want to be angry right now I would probably read something else because it is a very angry series.
