Any pronouns (most use he/him).

Fun fact: Java was the first programming language to be (commercially) advertized to any significant extent. (4/4)

Much of the further development — definitely still active — happens in a cooperation with everyone interested (that is, big companies that are willing to play their employees for participating) with Oracle as chair. We’re generally very satisfied with this way and its outcomes. (3/4)

Sun was otherwise mostly known for building (small) computers. Oracle, mostly known for databases, bought Sun at a point because they wanted Java (and after that sold many other parts of Sun off again). (2/4)

AI could never have done that art if humans hadn’t done it first.

As an aside, it’s funny how Viking helmets with horns are abundant in popular culture. Yes, a helmet from the Viking age with horns on it exists. The horns were added several centuries after the end of the Viking age. Vikings never wore horns.

Sounds right, and good to know. Before I use it in an argument with a colleague, is that your own summary of your empirical observations, or have you got statistics to back it?
October 5, 2025 at 7:05 AM
That’s a different and obviously crucial question.
October 5, 2025 at 7:03 AM
Oh, sure, that’s normal for dictators. :-(

I may be partly imagining things, but they seem to me to dry my skin too much while still leaving water drops on my hands. I never use them.

I believe it much depends on the size and criticality of your product. Each bug fix risks introducing other bugs. In some systems you can afford that risk; in some you need heavy measures to reduce it to near zero.

In my case there’s just one un-signposted right turn they need to make that the route finder (GPS, Google Maps) doesn’t tell them. How to explain where to take that right turn, I wouldn’t know how to fit that into 20 chars.
