I don't think the issue is that it is modern, and I agree that a classical pastiche would not be desirable. I think the Victorian society is suggesting that they could have gone for something quieter, subtler and not as tall.

I think this is a bit unfair. What I suspect they mean is that these new sheds should be subservient to the main building, and what has been designed instead makes an architectural statement and purposefully draws the eye.

I would take those CGI's with a big dose of salt, they are a pair of large sheds which have been zhuzhed up a bit. My suspicion is that it will feel less like a wine bar and more like the security area of a mid-tier airport.

Agree, reforming the planning system without also tackling the issues with the major house builders, and social housing etc is unlikely to result in the scale of change they are promising. I suspect the focus is because rewriting the NPPF is free and doesn't need to go through the HoC
