I am not suggesting that Europe should mount a futile defence of Greenland. All I am saying is that, if the US invaded Greenland against the clear wishes of the Danes, their NATO allies and the Greenlanders, then there are likely to be resignations among senior US military and intel officers.

Denmark’s national sacrifice in Afghanistan when measured as KIA as % of its population was greater than that of the US. They paid a very heavy price to support the US just to have their kingdom invaded.

You cannot compare the bombing of the French Fleet in WW2 to the situation in Greenland. The threat and its immediacy were totally different. Enough of the US military would comply but there would be resignations in protest across intel and all the services. It would be a shocking betrayal.

I agree. Whilst the amount of people impacted will be small, compared to say the misselling of financial products, the impact on the vulnerable and their beneficiaries is often immense. No one likes to see a granny ripped off.

The consistent message in this excellent piece is that having regional allies is critical for this military strategy and yet current US foreign/aid policy and economic policy seems at odds with this.

An incredible investment for a standing army of 63,000. Even if Germany can grow its manpower substantially it still is an investment in old tactics and structures and doesn’t seem like the most efficient way to increase lethality.

Is it confident of having sufficient troops for these vehicles?
