Moments of happiness in research...when a book chapter you wrote about Russian propaganda is cited in a journal article on Lithuanian political discourse. As the daughter of a Lithuanian, I feel especially proud that my research might be contributing in some small way to important work 🇱🇹❤️

Wow, listening to this poem and reading the comments section is very insightful. Knowledge needs to be open and free, not behind paywalls and expensive degrees...

What a powerful speech from Dr Vanessa Pirrotta, thank you! ❤️

“I was 30, qualified and lost. I felt like I’d given everything to the science world, and all I wanted to do was to stay [in Australia] and have kids, but I couldn’t find a job in academia."

The new Penguin Archive Series is pretty nice. Feels slightly surreal though reading classics that now need to contain warning statements against AI training systems. #booksky💙📚

Super fascinating book, read it in one sitting. As someone who has only lived through the contemporary university, it was interesting to read about the history of universities in Australia and the effects of government policies. I hope universities always remain a public good. #booksky💙📚

Wondering if anyone can suggest research for me to read on predictions/recommendations on what the future university workforce will look like? e.g. academic vs professional staff, third space work. Particularly interested in the Australian context but I'll read anything. #academicsky

And I notice slight differences with publisher policies when it comes to 'declaring' gen AI use. So again, context is everything :)
oliviainwood.com
I forgot to highlight context in my earlier response. I'm always reading the AI policies of the publishers I want to submit articles to: au.sagepub.com/en-gb/oce/ar... www.springer.com/gp/editorial... - these policies distinguish between AI-assisted copy editing and gen AI for content creation.

This is an example of our acknowledgement statements: answers.library.westernsydney.edu.au/loader?fid=1... Prompts can be included in an appendix. Placement of the statement depends on context (e.g. at the start if its a thesis).

How Gaza has 'lost a generation' of students
Palestinian academics who fled Gaza after the war say a "generation of students" has been lost due to the conflict.

My university has moved towards acknowledgement statements of gen AI use. We shouldn't really be "copying and pasting" gen AI text anyway and as already mentioned, gen AI shouldn't be the original source. Output from gen AI tools can be non-recoverable so that is another issue.

Yes, that part of the paragraph is problematic.
