I feel like I'd read Habits before. maybe I'm online enough to have seen and internalized the tips. None of it was entirely new information.
Sam Hell was one of the fastest reads of the year. could not put it down. But I've already professed my love for Dugoni's writing!!!

Still moving through Victoria Aveline's series.
I'm loving all the stories that resulted from one event and the ways that the characters deal with the fallout. There is a bit of repetition, but five in, with three or so to go it's expected and i can look over it.
enjoying the stories

Trying to step down from "monster fucker" smut & try alien romance... I mean why not? it's "candy" reading & I've done hard stuff all year! But these are really good, the chracters are well drawn, the universe building is pitch perfect, and the smut is way toned down from the last series.

fast read. fun characters, cute litte twists.
I'm definitely winding down here at the end of the year. I think I've only got 8 or so left in me. I had planned to read 90 books this year, but have managed over 150. That'll do.

Such a promising concept. I was looking forward to this book, but it was a real dud. it was a really great short story that was stretched into a repetitive and frustratingly under-imaginative narrative. The characters were melodramatic and annoying.
It's put me off books this week.

I've been surprised by the amount of character development in these last couple of Nascosta books. Very enjoyable in the end.

Red River Road was a book club pick, but it's one of the best books I've read this year. Which is a lot since I've hated so many of the picks this year.

this was a fun book! a little bit goofy rom-com, but as we head into the Christmas movie season, I'm super into cheesy romance. would absolutely recommend. I loved the twists and turns and reading a relationship budding between adults. low-no spice. just mature attitudes.

Keeping on with the Nacosta series. eh, less weird. although not really.
Had been looking forward to reading the Perry memoir for a long while. Heartbreaking. I smoked for years but quit during IVF. i can't imagine drowning in these kind of depths of addiction. it was hard to listen to.

OK. Lo escuché en español. y lo segué con un libro en español. para enseñarme cerebro escuchar en español. no fue fácil para me. pero, era buena practica. y estoy aprendiendo.

i chose a book I KNOW well. so I wouldn't be lost. good practice. & more interesting than kids books TBCH.

I get the criticisms that this novel is baldly derivative... but the author makes some decisions that set it apart from it's models. not great decisions, though I think he works to build or resolve them in interesting ways. may read more of the series.

okay. i *said* "monster fucker" smut wasn't for me, but apparently I'm reading this whole series! LOL.
I will say this feels a bit less gratuitous. I like how the author is working on building a world in this one. They all seem to have a HEA, which is ... whatever.

An old favorite, I've read Frankenstien many times I'm never disappointed in the whole people are both awful & wretchedwhile also being worthy of love & need caring for. No notes, Mary. 👨‍🍳
Pageboy was kind of a lot, but I adore the vulnerability.

Continuing with Steinbeck.
Have read Mice/Men b4, I didn't remember the timeframe being so short. It feels even more tragic when taking that into account.

Pretty much hated TF. nearly DNF, the characters are awful people & we've got too much of that IRL.

Haven't read a lot of "romance" until this year. a book club friend challenged me to try "smut" too. Neither are my faves, but I am super not into "monster f*cker" fiction.
I will say there was enough story in both of these to be interesting.

Been struggling with mental health lately... it's about all I can do to keep reading. This was a nice, light-hearted mystery, so that's nice.

seiers of essays essentially. interesting stuff, but it was due before I could finish it, so i dipped with 2 chapters left. so this is technically a DNF, but I'm counting it since I finished more than 80% of it.

This was a kind of infuriating read. And I feel sorry for the way these artists were treated.... but I shouldn't be surprised. The industry is awful enough, but for women. yuck.
good read though.

I have always admired Fox's positivity and optimism, so this ... essay, read by the author, was very heart-warming and reinvigorating. Honestly, just the kind of reminders about being human that we need to be hearing right now.

Such an inspiring read. if anyone deserves healing, I believe she does. And I think Amanda's drive toward reconciliation and grace could really be helpful in the moment we find ourselves in lately.

Not a fan of the style, but the narrator is unreliable enough to keep me guessing and intrigued, so it works. Just started the second in this series.

I 💚 weekends. Good for finishing books that have languished on the pile 1/2 the week.
Loved that The Pearl was short, but it's a brutal story... beautifully told by a master of concision.
The Quinn finishes a series, and was probably the easiest read of the three.

Back to reading books I enjoy!
Continuing in a series I like, b/c it doesn't feel like the stereotypical cozy mystery. 💚
More spanish practice. I've been on duolingo for 225ish days. I can read kids books OK. Might challenge myself w/ something, like a middle fiction chapter book?
