"The Guy from Irish TV" at NASA for 50 years (and counting)! Ex Foreign Hack at BBC News & RTE News; now see/hear me live on space on BBC, RTE, Newstalk FM @aljazeera.com etc
I hope, and (to be fair) I expect that China will share details of what happened with other spacefaring nations. The US Wolf Act is a constant impediment to proper cooperation 😉

Brilliant! I think you have just invented the symbol of US planetary science 🏴‍☠️ 😉

We were so happy to be here for the LATEST Irish mission to Mars! OK OK, NASA paid for it, but our good mate Rob Lillis is the PI on @ucbssl.bsky.social ESCAPADE. (Ireland's Susan McKenna-Lawlor was an instrument PI on several Mars missions in the 1980s and 90s).

"Pirate" Paul was stopped twice by range security - but we had the necessary paperwork 😬

Proving he was there (and in the process spoiling my money shot 😂)

solar storms have real implications for a spacecraft operating at certain altitudes. Some are protected by the Van Allen belt, but others are not. This is not trivial

This is an enormous issue for spacecraft operators - I am aware of hours long meetings about the implications 😉

The first presidential inauguration I have missed in 50 years ! Míle buíochas le Ellen Coyne as a clúdach ar "an spéir ghorm" inniu. Bhí mé an-bhuíoch as!

Expect me to be posting a lot more in Irish, now that it will be the official language of Ireland's White House, Áras an Uachtaráin.

One man who took Franklin seriously, and became her mentor, was “The Sage” J D Bernal - the Irish genius from Nenagh in Co. Tipperary. He was telling his students in the 1930s: “the secret of life lies in the structure of protein, and X-ray crystallography is the only way to solve it.”

Fishing boat trips out of Port Canaveral have been cancelled for tomorrow because of weather, so I won't be holding my breath. If I had a beer for every rocket I've seen *NOT* launching, I would be very very drunk!

The best answer to that is to land the Rosalind Franklin Rover on Mars. Are you with us, America? (More in hope than in expectation)

Incidentally, the first news of Lincoln's assassination arrived at the small fishing village of Crookhaven in Ireland - a world scoop worthy of its own film.

NG-2 is slated to launch Ireland's latest Mars Mission! OK, OK, NASA paid for it - but the Principal Investigator of the Escapade mission is Irishman Rob Lillis @ucbssl.bsky.social @ucberkeleyofficial.bsky.social . I'm hoping Rob will slap our flag on his space probe twins 😜 tinyurl.com/UCBSSL

Whiling-my-time-away as I wait for the New Glenn 2 hot fire test, I come across this stunning scene from the NG-1 hot fire. Auld joke was that half the tourists on the beach would watch the Canaveral Light waiting for it to lift off. Wouldn't make that mistake now!

What is the timestamp on these images, Niall. I'm trying to work out illumination that would fit the unusual bright line (probably low angle sun striking along the side of the cylinder)
