Our results underline that high blood pressure is the most important vascular risk factor to mitigate WMH progression and associated cognitive decline. WHR did not have additional negative association with WMH progression, even though previously reported.
omegalab.bsky.social
Stronger progression in WMH was related to stronger cognitive decline, globally ✅œ… but not for executive function ❌
A figure showing results from the linear mixed models, where WMH progression is significantly associated with global cognitive decline (p<0.001), with a Bayes Factor > 10

We found that baseline diastolic BP did not relate to WMH progression❌Œ, while change in DBP did ✅ œ…. Baseline WHR and its change was not related to WMH progression ❌Œ
A figure depicting the results of the linear mixed models, showing that change in DBP was significantly associated with WMH progression (p<0.001), with a Bayes Factor > 10

We investigated modifiable risk factors of cerebral small vessel disease 🧠 and tested whether baseline and change in blood pressure 🩺 and waist-to-hip ratio 🍐Ÿ were associated with progression of white matter hyperintensities in older adults over seven years.

Three of our lab members, Daria EA Jensen (P.0748), Meghedi Vartanian (P.1065), and Konrad Endres (P.1111), have the opportunity to attend ECNP in Barcelona and present their posters today and tomorrow. Come & learn more about the hypothalamus, neuronal responses to visual food cues & ghrelin!
