Our results underline that high blood pressure is the most important vascular risk factor to mitigate WMH progression and associated cognitive decline. WHR did not have additional negative association with WMH progression, even though previously reported.

Stronger progression in WMH was related to stronger cognitive decline, globally ✅œ… but not for executive function ❌

We found that baseline diastolic BP did not relate to WMH progression❌Œ, while change in DBP did ✅ œ…. Baseline WHR and its change was not related to WMH progression ❌Œ

We investigated modifiable risk factors of cerebral small vessel disease 🧠 and tested whether baseline and change in blood pressure 🩺 and waist-to-hip ratio 🍐Ÿ were associated with progression of white matter hyperintensities in older adults over seven years.
