So I'll continue speaking on it even when things I am happy about are happening. Until this industry stops having this double standard and can stop being afraid of feminine media I'm going to keep talking about it. Because I love this medium and I love this industry.

The manga industry has been able to make huge strides over the past several years, but there's still a lot of growth that needs to continue to happen, and having this double standard is going to hinder this medium from reaching the heights it should be able to in this country.

Bookstores are now thriving again, noted by B&N opening many new stores across the nation, very largely in thanks to the massive success of "romantasy" novels that are overwhelmingly successful with the same demographics that shojo/josei manga are. But the manga industry isn't interested in that?

Diversity in publication draws a larger crowd of readers into the industry, which is what helps it to not just survive, but thrive, and this is increasingly important to note as we head towards another recession and a time when production costs in publishing continue to rise.

Yes, I mostly read shonen and seinen. It's what I'm more drawn towards and probably always will be, but I love this medium and this industry across the board, and what's good for part of the industry and good for all of the industry. What's bad for part of the industry is likewise bad for all of it.

In the same breath, while I'm excited that recent releases like this, Ashita no Joe and Legend of Kamuy spell out a bright future for titles previously thought impossible to be licensed into English, I am also unhappy that none of these big industry changing wins are ever for shojo or josei titles.
