starting out in the intro i'm already floored. i literally learned japanese because I grew up at the same time as the author and wanted to actually learn more and engage better with the same games. Don't call your book definitive and play semantic games with SuFami vs SNES,

"Asking what each game is ABOUT means much more than simply reciting plot or sharing historical information. The thematic approach that this book takes would have turned a smaller project into one that could eat up more than a decade. By my count, there are well over a hundred Super Famicom RPGs that never saw a western release in their day. We also have to reconcile with the facts that not every SFC RPG has had a complete fan translation into English and most readers of this book won't be familiar with many of them anyway. I don't speak or read Japanese, and make no mistake: You probably need to be able to read the text in order to play those RPGs and understand them.

just fyi steam and itch *can't* do this. they are american companies and thus completely dependent on american financial institutions for everything they will always have to bend the knee to payment processors (unless they relocate which is a tall order)
