Here's an interesting way to get a local pseudo-pixelsort distortion effect with GIMP;
- Slur filter with randomization at 100%
- Adjust "repeat" to adjust intensity
- Use random seed to move pattern (i.e for animations)
Works particularly well on low res images and pixelart.
