I don't think there ever will be an opportune moment. "Now is not the time" is the unofficial slogan of many liberal parties to never actually help vulnerable communities.

My point is that people who hate it won't stop. I'm not disagreeing with your points, I'm just trying to figure out the solution.
Once people who like it think regulation is good enough, the people who don't can just keep going.

I think it's just one more example of "the market doesn't care about externalities it doesn't have to pay for". We keep letting "the market" make decisions that enrich the few in detriment of the many. AI is a compound example of the tragedy of the commons.

The energy usage is a lot more troublesome than the water usage IMO. And not per query but in the pace it's expanding without also expanding renewable energy sources.
