Why One Health needs Communities of Practice (CoP)?

#Onehealth entails interdisciplinary collaboration and learning from one another to solve different parts of the same challenge. A CoP facilitates this regular conversation by bringing people together.

4. Long term One Health benefits are hard to showcase

Stakeholders often focus on short term gains like immediate approaches to control a disease rather than investing longterm. Because ‘prevention’ lacks tangible success stories:

‘Disease that didn’t happen’

‘Economic loss that was avoided’

3. Communication gaps

Although some efforts are in place, often, One a health initiatives operate in a project basis or emergency basis rather than embedded in institutional structures ensuring consistent dedication and funding.

2. Lack of implementation standards

Absence of established protocols and examples or standard frameworks makes it difficult to integrate and sustain long term interdisciplinary engagements.

A framework to measure One Health impact across disciplines is in need.

1. Institutional identity

Medical professionals , Veterinarians, Ecosystem health scientists and Social scientists have their distinct methods, funding no streams, priorities that are long established making it challenging to create genuine cross sectoral relationships.

One health is all about breaking silos. Ironically, from certain angle One Health seems like a silo too!

One Health is like the gym membership in January- everyone is all in when the crisis hits, but forgotten when the storm passes.

Why?
