For the genuine residents of Jesmond that matter. And their cars.
We are always looking for new members. To ensure we are more representative, we kindly ask all rich, fat, ageing men to defer their applications for a while.

My paper tells me that cyclists are 44% more likely to die if they are hit by an SUV than a lesser car.

All the more reason to get them off the roads.

Cyclists should not be allowed on proper roads as its too dangerous for them.

Jesmond’s graveyards are clearly no longer in use, but occupy a huge area. Laying all the tombstones down would allow them to be used for parking cars, something we desperately need. Come on NCC, this is a grave issue.
April 23, 2025 at 5:52 PM
So, they opposed the LTN but now they want to close Acorn Rd. Don’t these people realise that some of us live as far away as Reid Park Rd?
How are you supposed to get to Waitrose from there without a car?

Buses responsible for 1 in 10 road deaths in London. Time to get these (mostly empty) death traps off our roads before we go the same way.

Hats off to Calderdale! No to cycle lanes/footpaths, yes to cars. Getting rid of the cycle lanes on the GNR would allow hundreds of cars to park. Listening, NCC? (Where’s Calderdale?)

Local backlash sees plans to swap car parking for cycle lane scrapped, but council insists "longstanding concerns about road safety and congestion" will still be addressed
Calderdale Council said it had "listened to local people" when making the decision to maintain parking spaces and ditch plans for cycle lanes on a busy A-road

So cars are getting wider by 1cm every 2 years but the streets aren’t? WE NEED WIDER STREETS!

Cars are getting bigger – about 1cm wider every two years. The only thing is, our streets aren’t.

So 20mph zones reduce death and injury, according to the Welsh. BUT AT WHAT COST? Its what they don’t say that we should be listening to. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Ex-minister says it shows policy was the most successful road safety initiative in modern times.

Trees that damage houses are felled. But if they damage cars? No! Tree sap isn’t just ugly, it can damage paintwork badly. Trees that insist on dripping on parked cars should be felled, or at the very least pollarded, as a warning.

So the government plans to “Unleash AI across UK”. No-one is asking for that - we just want it dualled all the way to Scotland so traffic ca flow freely.

Leading tech firms are said to have committed £14bn towards the project, which could create more than 13,000 jobs.

We note that both the RGS and NSG have an inordinate area given over to staff parking. These should be repurposed as pickup/dropoff areas which would allow traffic to flow more freely on Eslington and Eskdale. Its all about priorities, Headteachers please take note.
January 10, 2025 at 6:21 PM
The speed humps on Grosvenor Ave need sorting. Traffic has to come to a crawl, unlike those on Osborne Rd / Avenue which can be negotiated safely at 40-50 mph. Come on, NewcastleCityCouncil, get on it and let the traffic flow freely on Grosvenor
January 8, 2025 at 4:55 PM
So Newcastle Council want us to be a Marmot city? For those that don’t know, marmots are huge fat squirrels that dig holes everywhere, make a lot of noise and spread the Black Death!
Aren’t Jesmond’s own rats, foxes cyclists and students enough of a pest?
December 20, 2024 at 6:26 PM
We see that Metro is planning to let cyclists take bikes on for more stations. We think this is an excellent idea and encourage all cyclists to take advantage.
A tip - leave the bike at home and it would be even easier for you and better for traffic
December 17, 2024 at 6:13 PM
So Chris Whitty is in favour of ‘15 minute cities’? So are we. It can take much longer than 15 mins to drive into town and park. Get rid of bus lanes and provide more parking and watch the traffic flow freely again.
December 15, 2024 at 10:23 AM
Waitrose- SHAME ON YOU. Those bollards in front of the store on Osborne Rd force cars to park on the pavement -don’t you care about wheelchairs and prams? 10-15 cars could fit comfortably in front of the store if the bollards were removed.

So the JRA claims to be transparent? Yes, they’ve got their names and email addresses in the website, have free membership and open AGM’s. Is that enough?
As for us, we are who we are.
December 12, 2024 at 7:35 PM
So it’s been shown that LTN’s
Halve road injuries.
Eliminate rat-running.
Reduce pollution, even at boundaries.
Reduce street crime.

But at what cost? One of us was late to his golf AGM because of the bollards.

This website shows the places in Jesmond that cyclists should avoid as they are too dangerous. Take note, or on your own head be it!
December 9, 2024 at 7:33 PM
Railings all* along Osborne Rd would keep pedestrians safely separated from traffic, apart from proper pedestrian crossings. Traffic could then be allowed to flow freely at 30 or 40 mph.
*except where cars have to park on the pavement, obs.
December 4, 2024 at 4:11 PM
It’s time people understood the difference between good bollards and bad bollards. Good ones, like those in N Jesmond, keep streets quiet and safe. Bad ones, like the LTN ones, stop traffic from flowing freely. That wasn’t hard, was it?
December 2, 2024 at 1:03 PM
It’s now proven that most city air pollution comes from log burners and open fires. So why is NCC wasting money on stupid 20mph zones that increase emissions and prevent traffic from flowing freely?
November 30, 2024 at 10:01 AM
Time to something about these distracting cycle lights. Motorists should be concentrating on keeping up to the speed limit and helping the traffic flow freely, not looking at bikes.
November 27, 2024 at 5:29 PM
Roads weren’t made for cars. There’s no room for parked cars on Jesmond’s narrow terraced streets. They block traffic and prevent if from flowing freely. The corrupt council should compel cars to be parked on drives or in garages.
