One side of this shadowbox fence was built in 2023 with reclaimed oak from a deck, the second side was finished last week with leftover cedar planks from a garden commission. I like how it has a bright and aged side right now, especially in winter light. Behind it is Mt Beacon.

I chose this orange to match the primary color in a nearby mural. I liked this railing type because it was the cheapest option I could think of that would hold up in a public park and also look good. The impact of the red winterberries and the geometry from a wheelchair ramp make it extra special.

Wildfire is a vital process, nourishing many ecosystems. When we consider history, we see how the pain of the past—the displacement of native peoples and their wisdom—has disrupted this balance. 200yrs of careless planning have left the land and its beings out of rhythm with their true nature.
