I do embrace climate science, I just find marmot-adjacent climate scientists more credible than others.

It was striking how plaintively disappointed he was in some of his (former?) colleagues. Like, you honestly thought they were all motivated by a deeply-held ethos that valued freedom above all else? Naw, man, they just liked playing outlaw and using public resources without paying, that's all.

Genuinely don't understand what he gets out of it. Not money - it loses $. Not prestige - he tanked that. Not a good instrument for sucking up to the regime bc the regime still hates it & no amt of bootlicking is ever enough. So, what? A tax write-off? You can get that from a failing restaurant!

I don't think anybody is arguing about the platform capabilities. But the person you replied to suggested there are concerns w/ biometrics, and notwithstanding the hyperbolic phrasing that can be true under US law. Not everybody is confident they can disable it under pressure with guns in their face

My guess is he's referring to this: arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...

A manually-entered password ("something you know") can be withheld as part of the 5A rights to not self-incriminate. Courts have held this does not apply to "put your finger here".
Cops can force suspect to unlock phone with thumbprint, US court rules
Ruling: Thumbprint scan is like a "blood draw or fingerprint taken at booking."

Also pro snow day. I can't claim the kid canvassed for anybody, but we did break out the sled.

This would be a great time to donate (or just visit) the African American Museum in Phila and the National Constitution Center. Municipally (AAMP) and privately (AAMP and NCC) funded, not beholden to a federal administration, and a history of direct, unflinching exhibits.
January 23, 2026 at 4:39 AM
Not that this makes it better, but the African American Museum and the National Constitution Center are each about two blocks from there. Both are independent, not federally funded (though NCC is on NPS land), and have exhibits that do not whitewash history. Both could use the support!

I feel like Newsom would be great in the traditional VP candidate role: throwing bombs that excite the base but that the POTUS can distance from. But as pres candidate: Rs will present him as avatar of Crazy Cali, and the actual left hates him more. He's popular mostly with center-liberals.

Oh yeah, agreed that MN/ICE is another thing entirely - U.S. soil, ordinary nonviolent civilians, the terror, and of course all the lies. I'm not equating them at all! It's more of a "lest we forget" thing. The boundaries of the acceptable keep getting more unacceptable.

Surprised you don't recall - the targeting of a U.S. citizen in a drone strike was huge news at the time. Also three citizens who were collateral damage to other non-American targets. A.G. Holder acknowledged them officially! But none on U.S. soil, at least.

He refers to his own marriage in that post as an example of "two Christians from different ethnic backgrounds", so whatever else is going on in this guy's head with 'ethnos' and 'interracial', it's pretty clear he considers her a Christian.

Even worse, an *AI summary* of reader comments is more coherently argued than the professionally written content.

Serious Q, IANAL, but in the analagous "human therapist" scenario would client saying "I'm only asking for a story" eliminate malpractice liability?

More generally, isn't there liability for misuse the company could have foreseen, like why they make speed governors on cars nontrivial to disable?

Following and Mutuals. I'm a low-follower account so the latter is something where I can go through a day's worth of posts in a few minutes.

Someone ITT mentioned "Quiet Posters" and that sounds worthwhile, might try that one.

Na'vi are usually barefoot too, and it might be worth trading six-legged sabertooths for Nazgûl. Can't do anything about the short part, but consider how fabulous some of us look in blue.
