Big goof that's a *paleolithic handaxe, not neolithic.

There's a Medieval French painting the MELUN DIPTYCH that shows a neolithic hand axe. St. Stephen holds it on a book. It's quite detailed, so the painter probably saw one someone found.

Sort of related

Great essay arguing that Kirk is not a ho, and how changes in American masculinity ended up changing our interpretation of Kirk over time as the 60s became the 80s

Freshly Remember'd: Kirk Drift
There is no other way to put this: essentially everything about Popular Consciousness Kirk is bullshit.

Wouldn't India be like the big exception here? And I suppose brazil the other way. Interesting to think about

It is a bit odd that "worrying about AGI soon" and "worrying about demographics collapse" are correlated among the online set? Like, surely AGI soon then the other doesn't matter. And yet you have to be a very hardcore AGI-Soonist to not also post about demographics for some reason

Surprisingly common. Everyone (including the coupists) felt vaguely embarrassed by the overthrow of the Brazilian empire. To a large extent it happened because the emperor was tired and sexist (didn't want a daughter to inherit) and didn't put up a fight.

IMO it's that they assumed that the house proposing the budget would give it power of the purse, but it turned out that needing the Senate to ratify and giving the Senate more powers made it vastly more powerful

Also they were very tired in un air conditioned Philly summer! The presidency was the last thing the convention got to and they threw up their hands. They assumed the House would be the most powerful body, lots of mistakes

A lot of film series shifted into some high concept SF/F series obsessed with continuity but it's hard to draw parallels with politics
Was the response to 08 and Obama parallel to F&F going to space and thinking about legacy? Not really IMO

People point to the sudden post 9/11 Bourneification of JANES BOND or BATMAN the 90s/00s line, but it's not much of a genre shift. Things get more violent?

But what the hell do the F&F or MI series say about their times? Hell, or Marvel?

Rambo I (after effects of the Vietnam war, psychotic small town sheriff paranoia)
Rambo II (guns guns guns)

Hard to think of a 90s/00s pair. Or an 00s/10s pair
