We get the word ”money” from Moneta, an epithet of the Roman goddess Juno, after Roman soldiers in Gaul built a shrine to her following their guard geese warning them of a Gallic ambush. (The shrine later was colocated with a mint.)

believe it or not: geese in general (particularly canada geese) make excellent guard animals; they have good eyesight, are insanely territorial, and are stronger than they look

Let me emphasize once again that if you’re inclined toward “no deal is possible with these guys” then trying to make a reasonable deal and getting this reaction demonstrates that far better than just asserting it and refusing to try would have.

Memes serve as a tool of dark participation and are used purposefully “to disrupt, undermine, attack, resist or reappropriate discursive positions pertaining to public affairs narratives in the news” (Peters & Allan, 2021, pp. 2–3)

I really believe that huge majorities of Americans don’t want masked soldiers shooting priests in the street. They don’t want naked children ripped out out of their apartments in the middle of the night and handcuffed. We win by making sure these stories get told.

The same people who insisted devout Catholic Joe Biden was leading a “war on Christianity” are now cheering Trump on as his armed goons assault clergymen.

My mistake, everyone, it turns out ICE has tear-gassed this Chicago man of God more than once and I chose a photo from the wrong incident!

If people can’t look at Schumer going on TV and saying “hey look at me being all reasonable” and understand what‘s really going on, they need to watch more wrestling.

“Long-standing proxy war rules” includes stuff like flying thousands of MiG sorties from off-limits airfields into North Korea, and then claiming you’re not doing that.

we as liberals don't actually need to cede the idea of military effectiveness to the right. we should point out that these meathead morons are going to lose us a fucking war.

At least for the first decade or so of its release, Team Fortress 2 managed to keep cosmetics from mangling character silhouettes *too* badly, keeping characters readable in the heat of combat.

What am I supposed to do with this?
