Somehow, this post on my blog for making #MermaidJS sequence diagrams prettier is quite popular and I needed to refer to it myself today. So, ya, if you want prettier #SequenceDiagrams: notepad.onghu.com/2024/making-...

(I'm reminded I need to work on Part 2)

Moving large amounts of data to/ from cloud storage providers at least on Windows is a ridiculously bad experience. Trying to copy a large folder from "all files on device" Dropbox is just randomly stuck for 20+min.

So, you can get the "Plus" Tab with the "Pro" Pen, or the "Pro" Tab with the "Plus" pen. I wish it was simpler!

I know there's a popular post that this never fixed anything for anyone, but in reality, it did fix it for me today!

That said, there seems to be a grammatical error in "one or more audio service"

#throwback to when I was using #Palm #WebOS and it didn't have an IME for Japanese, so I put together a small app to let you enter romaji and get kana which you could copy to your other application... was better than nothing & helpful!

In an unexpectedly aggressive move, it seems that #Google #Drive will keep rewriting Registry entries on #Windows to make the New > Item context menu always have the entries to create New > Google Docs/ Sheets/ Slides. Why!?

I've always had #Microsoft #Office, so I never realised that #OneNote is not available to everyone to edit in the Desktop app on Windows.

(Not doing Microsoft bashing here, and not looking for alternatives - just surprised)

Delighted to discover TaskbarGroups, a simple program that lets me get something similar to a Quick Launch toolbar on the Taskbar in #Windows 11. After a lot of setup & tweaks (most working), I think I'm ready to start using Windows 11 as my #PC daily driver (to find more things).

#TIL that #Windows11 can schedule Windows Updates at times when you're more likely to use renewable energy!

#Windows is probably extremely configurable and allows apps to inject plugins into things like Explorer. Unfortunately, it gets abused by people like whoever came up with this ugly implementation in the Recycle Bin (Microsoft? #Dropbox)

When your kid is old enough to enjoy music with you, but not old enough to have his own device, this feature on #Samsung #Galaxy is quite a bit of fun.

If you see these #Bluetooth devices near you, it's us!

Finally, started with installing #JRuby 10 & running Hello World before trying other things in the next few weeks. If you've wanted to experiment, here's a simple illustrated guide to get it running and the first steps:

Somehow, I need to find time to get into at least a little bit of #Jruby 10 later today. Good thing that I already have Java 21 on my computer.

A few years back, I remember seeing a few electrical slots in some hotels in Japan that were 24時間通電 electricity for you to charge your gadgets while up were out... which really is the #1 reason to hack these 🙂

Did #Microsoft #Excel just change the columns to be numbers instead of leters?

Need to find an English name/ link later, if I get the chance.

I've been using very good @samsung.bsky.social Note/ S Ultra for almost 7 years, but this device (and the older #BlackBerry 10 and #Palm #WebOS devices) still makes me nostalgic for a certain #productivity.

With OneNote, I think the biggest challenge is deciding the correct number and organisation of the notebooks. This post explains the approach that I am currently using with #OneNote and #MindMaps to organise information.

After a few more hours, Part 2 of my posts exploring @duckdb.org and trying to do some common things is out! It focuses mostly on timestamp functions and the CLI to help you get started in earnest.

Need to find a way to add this into my series of DuckDB posts. The attached graph is based on exploration explained in Part 1: notepad.onghu.com/2025/explori...

I saw widgets on my #Windows lock screen again today after a long while. Some update decided to flick the setting! I know because I searched online how to disable it and the link is a visited page.

Is it just me or does it seem like Windows wants to be like BBC? Educate, Inform, Entertain.

#GoogleAnalytics likes to occasionally surprise me by telling me that my blog has more "New Users" than "Active Users"

Anyway, if you'd like to add to both counts, I write about #Ruby, #Windows, #Programming, #Produtivity and Tech at notepad.onghu.com
