If not there... Online you can view locations with a bottle 1... If you can- GO! There is also a fellow that has a milky way calendar with prime viewing dates at different latitudes... Excellent tool for planning

6 days and 2000kms for this opportunity!!! It was well worth it! It yielded some other goodies along the way!

It took some planning, a 4x4 and some camping equipment, but it's doable! That was central Oregon, not far from Mitchell. Right along the John Day River out by Painted Hills

You can definitely see the difference in terms of light pollution... 2 of the Milky Way shots are in a dark sky bortle scale of 3-4, while the other one is a scale of 1 ... Crazy difference even to the naked eye!
