Ah - that all makes sense. You can see the really dense contour lines on the OS map.

Amazing news! And so well-deserved.

We love Jaiyana's work and were really thrilled to feature "Go Back to Where?" in our current @dartmoorcollective.org Flow zine.

Keep an eye out for the photo appearing on a digital billboard near you very soon!

Post a pic of the venue where you saw your first concert and the band or artist.

Been stuck in the house for most of the week due to the weather but managed to wobble my way up to Mardon stone circle this afternoon - My first properly off piste walk since my knee op.

The light was stunning - and the air beautifully still.

What was your #ChildhoodCinema?

The Plaza, Bangor.

A good hour on the bus from home, but very handy if you wanted to pick up some lugworm and mackerel feathers after the show.

Briefly taken over by an independent in the 2000s but now sadly demolished.

Dial-a-Disc.

A service provided by the Post Office where you could dial 160 to hear a current top 10 record on a loop.

Astonishingly it lasted until 1991...

Trying to hack it to get free plays in a phonebox was a rite of teenage passage in rural areas.

It's ok though, as the polonium in it only had a half life of 140 days...😱

As has been the case for a lot of us, 2025 has been a strange old year, with more than its fair share of ups and downs.

I've struggled a bit with photos this year (for a variety of reasons) but here's a few of my favourites from the last 12 months.

Wishing a Happy New Year to all.

We've got this.

Yeah it's obviously all wisteria clad cottages, rococo whimsy and rustic thatch down this way...

The one upside of not being able to get outside and do the things we normally do is that it's 6pm on Christmas Eve and I've already prepped veg for tomorrow and wrapped presents - This is NOT normal.

Here's the Teign Gorge last Christmas - wishing everyone a restful break and all the best for 2026.

Seasonal bleepings...

These little gizmos proving their weight in gold in keeping me vaguely sane whilst laid up with a gammy leg.

If you're in Exeter and looking for a fun evening of live music to kick off your Christmas shenanigans then our son's band The Juliettes are headlining this showcase of new bands down at Bomba on the quayside tomorrow night.

Should be a good night...

Given where it is and the nature of the work then I think it's unlikely to be open to cyclists or pedestrians - here's the full letter for reference with contact details for the contractor.

Indeed...

To illustrate this point - not sure this has quite the same elegant aesthetic somehow... 😂

I expect so, yes - the entire road section is being replaced with extensive preparatory groundworks required beforehand.

You'll be able to bypass it on foot or (mountain/gravel) bike using the bridleway through woods to the South (past youth hostel), or the one along the river to the N though.

PSA for Exeter folk who use the B3212 through the Teign Valley to get out to Dartmoor - Devon County Council are finally renewing the bit which is subsiding just up from Steps Bridge, which means it's going to be closed for 4 months from the 5th Jan.

Needs doing but sure it's going to cause chaos!

A few more from my ride on Saturday before I broke myself on Sunday.

Feeling quite emotional today - I'm already aware that my accident on Sunday is going to change my relationship with many places I love and it's likely to be a very long time before I regain the confidence to return to them.

Weather lifting over Mynydd Mawr earlier.

Gazed at that view for half an hour (consumed half a pack of Welshcakes in the process) - could easily have stayed longer... but the weather took another nasty turn so hopped back on the bike for a gloriously fast switchback descent to Llyn Cwellyn, stopping only to take some photos to the south.

Weather was remaining reasonably clear and I had a second wind so rather than head straight down off the mountain I decided to push on a little further up the Snowdon Ranger path to get a better view of Cwm Clogwyn as it was looking so stunning and other-worldly. Was very glad that I did...

The top of the pass - theoretically it's all downhill from this point on...but the headwind had other ideas.
