little black girls should have healthy relationships with their hair. stop making a big deal out of cutting their split ends off, stop applying relaxers, let them experience different colors & styles, embrace every kink, curl & length. TEACH BLACK GIRLS TO LOVE THEIR HAIR!!

& with this new moon in Pisces ?? are you moving in trauma or are you moving toward your healing ?
what values do you say you have but don’t actually move in?
these next two weeks will uncover that . don’t run from what comes to the surface .

Smashing Pumpkins releases “1979” 29 years ago today — based on a poem Billy Corgan wrote about “the precipice between youth & adulthood .. being 17, 18, this weird feeling of having a job and a car, .. but I still had the tethers to home.”

Why “1979?"

“I have no idea, I had to call it something.”

history shows that in order to win, you gotta fight a game they don’t know and break the rules they so desperately cling to.

If you’re in the US, what’s your plan for maintaining your sanity through the incoming administration?

My favorite ideas so far: novels and poetry instead of doomscrolling, daily exercise (even 15 minutes is better than nothing), and maybe we don’t need to check the news more than 1x/day

if you made art this year, you did well. a sketch, even if it was scrapped ; a poem, even if it was deleted — mattered. you put thought to paper, you engaged with the creative alchemy of turning feeling to something tangible. doesn't matter if you weren't productive "enough." or good "enough."

Write that thing. Pluck it outta your soul with rusty pliers. Hit the keyboard like it owes you money. Write whenever, wherever you can. Tell your story. Make the words dance. Whatever you want—a novel, a short story, an agent, a movie—it all starts with the writing.

Remember that books are going to be harder to find. Public libraries might be something that they go after. I know that food is #1 priority, but knowledge should be in your top 5.

Please stay safe and please educate yourself.

My husband is an artist who makes orreries (clockwork planetary models) out of metal and glass. When I was struggling to finish my novel, he made me a deal: if I finished the book, he'd make me an orrery based on the world of my novel.
It's freaking BEAUTIFUL.

This is your reminder to get a library card. They have so many services and basically all of them are free.
