we aren’t good as a culture at sharing. i’m thinking that peope , rather than explaining their taste, default to trying to Sell it. so if they’ve never met a metalhead who likes their music they refuse to try to sell it to you. maybe anyway
i think there is a tendency for people who are into metal and prog to only be into those genres, but while that might explain why people are like that it’s not an excuse!
there just seems to be something about the music industry that every few years a critical mass of people who you’d think would know better lose their minds over a dude with mid sounds and a slightly weird voice
i’m guessing from a brief listen that this is getting acclaim because it’s hitting 2 or 3 different nostalgia buttons but combining them in a way that feels fresh and inventive to people who only listen to things that get widespread attention
you’ve gotta be kidding about the english. read anything by any english author about how they treat their children, they are one of the most brutal societies of all time.
India gained independence because the british empire was exhausted by wwii; they simply could not afford the fight.
i suspect we’ve always had that general kind of guy but for sure mraz and company are the precursor and prototype for our current version of that kind of guy
it might as well be ai, it’s the same impulse to make you feel something, but not too much, and be soothed and thoughtless in your comfortable pseudo-emotions, and thus scared of anything that truly moves you
i figure if they’re trying to kill mastodon they’ll run things open source to get it going but then add some critical and proprietary piece of infrastructure down the line. wouldn’t be the first time with OSS. but the only thing that really makes sense is they don’t understand people
He was pretty solidly pro-Bernie Sanders in 16 and 20 though I do think that’s more because of misogyny and contrarianism than an interest in socialism, and says more about the shallowness of Bernie’s socialism than yggy’s investment in leftism
They recently made them vaguer but this is an ongoing problem of unequal enforcement and flat out disregard for their own policies when it comes to those 2 groups of users in particular. Best example is the hair trigger banning of anyone suggesting we shouldn’t mourn Charlie Kirk
religiously, they are most of all concerned with maintenance of the most hierarchical form of the nuclear family. you get into mormon heaven by being a good patriarch or a good subservient housewife. they actively shun family members who fall out of good standing with the church.
in addition, the church spends a huge amount of money to influence national politics — almost entirely towards the promotion of patriarchal oppression (and conservatism more generally). they also do a lot of missionary work, and reputation laundering by producing artistic work.
i’m being flip but that’s also my serious answer. The lds church owns tons of property, the profits from which it keeps rather than spend on community aid, and it exerts a ton of control over its members - they really are led to spy on each other to ensure religious compliance
