At least you haven't poured syrup into your OJ instead of on your pancakes... I still don't think I've recovered from that

A good catnap might be in order for both of us today

I've got my notes on Joplin, synced across my desktop, laptop, and phone

Shopping? Write up list at my desk then it's on my phone at the store

School? Take notes on laptop, they're on my desk when doing homework

Chores/bills list with timed alarms, recipes, D&D lore, TV watchlist, I've got it all

Don't you love it how your income stream can just disappear for something random that you have no control over?

I'm sorry I can't help (my car insurance bill just came and even when I'm driving less now than 6 months ago it went up $250), but you have my thoughts and an internet hug fwiw 🫂

Can't remember which side your car's fuel door is on? In the fuel gauge on the dash is a little triangle pointing either left or right

Other fun fact, you can set presets for audio track names. I don't remember how to do it in Handbrake since I use MKVToolnix to edit the metadata afterward but I know it can be done

Luckily YouTube Revanced and (I forgot what my Firefox extension is called) let me disable Home and Shorts anyway

I like the watch history of nothing else because it helps me keep track of where I am in long videos and playlists

Though sometimes YT recommends videos I've already seen so *shrug*

Same way I keep YouTube somewhat sane. I have the app default to the subscriptions tab and I never click on home.

Rating White Collar Crimes by Gayness

Tax Evasion: Can't be put on the scale. Literally all of them at once. Transcends the bounds of perceived sexuality as literally everyone of every orientation should do it.

I used to be very good at English spelling. I learned Spanish and lived in Mexico for a time. They simplified their spelling (mostly getting rid of redundant double letters, like "application" vs "aplicación"), and because I got used to simplified Spanish spelling, my English spelling got worse 😅

I've always wondered what it is like switching from a syllable-based script like katakana to an alphabet like rōmaji

I also understand that English and Japanese have fundamentally different ways to approach word order in a sentence, which probably doesn't help

I admire everyone who is learning English as a second language because the rules for spelling and pronunciation in this silly language are so inconsistent. I believe in you! :D

I did Doordash between jobs. It was tough since you're paying for all the gas/maintenance and most of your pay comes from tips

Since legally you're a contractor, they aren't obligated to make up pay. Sometimes you would only get like $4/h equivalent, sometimes you would pay to work

My bf did pizza delivery as a first job after moving here and he constantly had to watch the books to make sure he was getting paid

Yeah, I wonder how many labor laws are broken every day since the workers are at such a power/money/time disadvantage compared to the companies so they can rarely afford the lengthy court process

And the government tends to be very pro-business so half the time they don't take you too seriously

I wish we were at a place where the tip was not required, a real bonus for good service, but that would first require overhauling the system as is so that servers can afford to live without tips
January 21, 2026 at 5:22 PM
You definitely can make good money.

My housemates were both servers once. They could bring in $1000 one week then just $300 the next. The dramatic inconsistency is a problem, and it all relied on how generous their customers were feeling on a given night. It made things real stressful for them

Reminder: the inflation-adjusted minimum wage has been the lowest ever since 2022. $7.25 in 2009 (when last increased) is $11 today.

If the minimum wage kept up with inflation since its peak in 1968, it would be about $14.50 today. If it had kept up with productivity, it would be about $24 today
January 21, 2026 at 5:09 PM
The fact that tipped workers are only paid $2.13/hr is crazy to me

And yes, the employer is supposed to make up the difference if wage + tips don't make it to $7.25, but that means that even if you tip, many servers are only making minimum wage

He's definitely a legend, probably the only person who could fill the shoes of John Williams

I'm just upset that they're remaking it at all. They went from spinoff slop to just redoing old work

I wonder how involved JKR is or how much she's making off it. It's not like she's hurting for cash
January 16, 2026 at 5:38 PM
Of course it's a tad different if your livelihood depends on making content, since you're much more beholden to the algorithm gods. In cases like that, I'm much more lenient on doing what you gotta do to get that bag, but it sucks that it means sacrificing at least some of your creative motivation
