I never thought about the lack of heroes, but even in the original series, the hero fucking despises his status by the end. It’s one thing to see the wow cool robot meme, it’s another to actually experience it.

On the contrary, seeing Cats on a Friday night and The Rise of Skywalker the next afternoon was so wonderful for me, I’m not sure I’ll ever have a better weekend at the movies. A certified bonafide genuine stinker is such a wonderful treat.

I’d highly recommend Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. It’s a six-episode direct-to-video series about a young boy who’s obsessed with war helping out fascist special ops fight in his colony. No background is needed and it has lean writing, great animation, and emotional gut-wrenching.
