There is also the problem that football is a lousy, dangerous (not to mention tedious) game that inflicts far too many injuries, including presumably CTE. I do not know whether it is worse than boxing, but it is certainly close. I no longer watch nor follow football. And yes to corrupt and cowardly.

It is probably true that wokeness has cost us elections. That said, tho, what The Times calls centrists we used to call conservatives, and that is part of the problem.

The states do not collect taxes for the Federal government. I suppose they could refuse to forward the tax that the state itself withheld from its own employees (and maybe put it into an escrow account), but it seems to me that might be the rough equivalent of sticking your arm into a hornets' nest.
