Do you store references to DOM elements that frequently get removed in an Array or a regular Map? If yes then maybe using WeakMap instead could help...

One of my pet peeves too. It might not even be their fault though. I was forced by auditors to implement this many times, against better judgement and after putting up a fight. (Bonus lesson learned: do not fight auditors)
