34. He/Him. Sometimes I draw.
I genuinely don’t know what they want at this point. TR has backslid entirely into nostalgia-bait ‘classic’ era everything - she doesn’t even have the survivor trilogy necklace like the upcoming games do as a token gesture.

What more could they even do to appease these people?

I should probably add for full clarification that the point of this dumb ramble isn't "You must respect canon" but instead "It is important to be aware of canon" fwiw (5/4)

Don’t get me wrong, I fully get that the 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵 of most fan works is literally the ways they deviate from canon, but I feel like being 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦 of that is so vitally important to truly appreciate it and what it’s trying to do. (4/4)

Not to mention the other side of the issue where so many feel like if there’s something in a piece of media they don’t like they can simply ignore it and declare it non-canon as if they’re the arbiter of what does and doesn’t count based solely on personal taste. (3/4)

…but these days I've found myself swinging back the other way again simply because so many in modern fandom don't really 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 what canonicity even means as a concept. How are you supposed to critique a piece of media if your head is full of stuff others made up to fill in the blanks? (2/4)

I'm not eloquent or succinct enough to get all my thoughts out concisely but I will leave it at this - it is INSANE to me that after ten years we still haven't got to see Overwatch just being Overwatch.

They were doing deconstuctionist narratives about an organisation we never even saw operating!

I could rant for days about how launching the game with the 'come join our super cool organisation & be a hero!' marketing did NOT gel with the idea of Overwatch having been shut down years ago. All the lore we got back then was just that - lore. History.

OW2 tried to finally move things and yet.

I forgot that was a thing! Wasn’t there a Klingon on the viewscreen with both Federation and Klingon emblems visible behind them?

Hell, I think the only example of 'what happened to these people was bad & wrong' that doesn't give devil's advocate options was the revelations about the dwarves in Veilguard, but given the specific character responsible for that good luck getting people to admit it was horrific.

Like, there's a whole discussion to be had about what groups the Quarians are clearly inspired by (despite some dodging of the issue by writers in the past) and it is still nuts to me how many still refuse to face up to some of the rather iffy parallels you can draw by siding against them.

It really is crazy how so much of BioWare fandom (both ME & DA sides) seem to be stuck in 2012. The same talking points, the same circular discussions, the same takes.

Legendary Edition was great but we need to talk about people's inability to re-examine those games with more modern eyes.

I got to witness the end watching the sunset next to one of the statues of General Tarsis herself.

Mixed feelings, knowing the hell the devs went through, but damn the gameplay really did have the sauce.

I truly am going to miss Faye, Haluk, Tassyn and the citizens of Fort Tarsis.
