I felt a small pang of disappointment when I realized it wasn’t going to be dialogue-free - it really felt like they were setting that up at the beginning.

The time limit is pretty generous, and I certainly didn’t run into it when I played it <mumble> years ago, but Star Control 2 was rather firm about the consequences of ignoring the ongoing war between the genocide-enthusiasts and the slavery-enjoyers.

But what if the threat model is orbital mind control lasers?
(I mean, you’d presumably use those in a nadir-facing mode, not limb-facing, to reduce extinction though the atmosphere)

It’s been a few years, so I don’t remember if it’s obvious from the beginning that he survived, but you could recut it so that it looks like he died in the attempt (only revealing the truth at the end), and that would be closest you could make to snuff film and not go to jail for it.
