Great movie.

I felt a small pang of disappointment when I realized it wasn’t going to be dialogue-free - it really felt like they were setting that up at the beginning.

Though then we would have been deprived of “he’s not immortal; he just refuses to die”

Huh, I didn’t know that!

(Thirty year old game, you learn something new every day)

GDI, now I want to download The Ur-Quan Masters and play it again, and I do not have the spare time for that.

Orz is feeling *frumpy*

Ah, the days before we had GameFAQs. Or the Internet.

I had pages in a notebook with coordinates, side quest leads, theories, TO-DO lists, …

Also, “<seek death at the hands of an enemy>” is one of the all-time best lines I’ve seen in a game.

The time limit is pretty generous, and I certainly didn’t run into it when I played it <mumble> years ago, but Star Control 2 was rather firm about the consequences of ignoring the ongoing war between the genocide-enthusiasts and the slavery-enjoyers.

The Twelve Apsostles is certainly an experience!

(Well, 20 years ago, when I was there last)

But what if the threat model is orbital mind control lasers?

(I mean, you’d presumably use those in a nadir-facing mode, not limb-facing, to reduce extinction though the atmosphere)

Reading comprehension fail, ugh. Can’t even blame lack of coffee.

I stand by the dumbest timeline comment, though. Even if not for this reason.

We now live in a reality where I can’t tell whether “I saw high protein candy canes on sale” is a joke or not.
January 12, 2026 at 4:12 PM
Sorry, “high protein” what-nows?

It’s a candy cane, it’s fucking sugar with a hair of artificial flavor!

We live in the dumbest timeline.

I will admit to having to look that up, its impossible that it’s been 30 years since I first read this.

I tell you yet again, the troll’s buried, he cannot come out on one’s timeline

If I were much less lazy than I am, I’d start a web site called “pivot-to-dod dot com”, where I’d document the trajectory of every aerospace startup.

Tight like the Moskva.

It’s been a few years, so I don’t remember if it’s obvious from the beginning that he survived, but you could recut it so that it looks like he died in the attempt (only revealing the truth at the end), and that would be closest you could make to snuff film and not go to jail for it.

Absolutely terrifying - and excellent - horror flick.

I am a climber (though not a Climber), so the technical stuff just makes it extra spicy.

Explicit save points.

I am an adult with responsibilities. Sometimes I have to put the game away *right now*, don’t make me lose my progress because the last save point was gifted minutes ago.

If you want to maintain some risk dynamic, make loading delete the save.

The most… let’s call it “memorable”… film I ever saw at the Toronto International Film Festival was “9 Songs”

A discussion on music, loneliness, Antarctica, and also unsimulated sex.

That was a remarkably awkward 70 minutes or so at a world famous film fest.

Biathlon would be a *much* more entertaining sport if they ran two athletes on parallel tracks… shooting into the middle.
