And I'm aware that this isn't even the bottom of the depths of how poor people in this country can be. So please, miss with this petite bourgeoisie/middle-class woe is me shite and miss me even harder with shaming poor people for criticizing the middle class.

I have lived in run-down squats, with no heat and a raccoon infestation during one of the most brutal winters on the East Coast. I've had support from my partner, and I purely off of menial tips. I had friends growing up whose parents lived with debilitating conditions because they were too poor.

I'm very tired of white cis people thinking poverty means having to rent an apartment and not living in complete luxury.

Only being able to afford one vacation a year and only a few nights of eating out a month is not poor...not by any stretch of the imagination. I have lived in and around true poverty. I've had friends and family in true, deep poverty.

I’m confident that’s actually how Abigail Brand would describe her relationship with Beast.

I guess you’re covering Abigail Brand on an upcoming Ep.

Not only is that paternalistic and infantilizing of the general public, but it demonstrates your lack of skill with the subject matter in failing to adapt it to the audience at hand.

The worst manifestation of this has led to the rejection of any technical expertise. that’s how you get MAHA.
January 3, 2026 at 2:41 AM
The reality is, many on the left are poor communicators of technical information and so they conflate “technical and specific” with “complicated and confusing”. As a result many on the left just simply pretend the public has no potential to comprehend complex ideas.

The best educators I’ve ever met used complex ideas and specific language. These things didn’t make any of the content hard to grasp because they also provided to tools to build subject specific literacy. As a result they built me up with the technical information, instead of confusing me.

This is also connected to a general de-skilling and anti intellectualism trend in the modern left. We’ve horse-shoed from being so jargon addled, all the way to reducing everything down to the point of non specificity, that pseudoscience and misinformation looking compelling by default.

Normalize unplanned visits and spur of the moment plans. It will do wonders for your mental health in the long run.

We hung out so often, with many of those connections being spur of the moment. The closeness, the spontaneity, and the commitment of that friend group was so critical to me. I miss it every day, and long to build something like it again.

Normalize going with your homies to the grocery store.

There need to be clear lines between embracing and honoring spirituality and normalizing pseudoscience and magical thinking.

The Plex stops at DC. Our DC is pretty black, but that might not be the case in Cyberpunk's alternate history. Especially after the wars. The Sprawl goes all the way to ATL. Which makes a lot of sense. Especially now with all these damn data centers in real life. cyberpunk.fandom.com/wiki/The_Plex

Just as migration had an impact on the west, I'm sure the east was affected too. Black Americans fleeing to the south. Caribbeans fleeing to the north. And everybody meeting in the middle. How did the Plex handle that loss? Or did it lose at all? Would it continue claiming regions like The Sprawl?

I liked that Cyberpunk 2077 took note of how much culture influenced the people. It was very west coast centric (as it should be). Native American culture had an impact on the nomad clans. Mexican culture shaped the Valentinos.

Migration and the blending of cultures is really far more important to Cyberpunk 2077's story than one would think. That's where Johnny's story starts. With a corrupt US government abandoning its military in South America and telling those soldiers to find a way home without transport or pay.

Who knows, maybe the anti trans bubble bursts soon an a radical new politics of the gendered body will sweep the nation… and I’ll be able to go full chrome.

I'm sure you're wondering--what does any of this have to do with black people? Well, in that future, the rest of the world realized that they didn't need to put up with America to enjoy American culture. And Black Americans who were skilled enough to make a living in entertainment became nomads.
