I studied Cuban groove pretty heavily when I was studying my MA in session musicianship on bass guitar. I’ve been thinking about going back to that well recently. I’ll check out your podcast :)

Agree, I want to hear about music. How did I follow a starter pack about ethnomusicology and get only US domestic issues, even after a bunch of unfollows and filtering a bunch of terms. I came here to get away from that.

On that, better that I don't start talking about blues musicians collaborating with other genres or traditions, but they only play standard blues chord progressions and noodling while someone sings an unrelated folk melody or reads a poem.

Blues is fine as a learning tool though.

Respect to the blues (I've played a lot of it in my life) but in my experience most players who overcommit to blues homage noodle their way through every track, never memorise a part and their improvisation sounds like the same 4 sound bytes in random orders and positions.
