19 years ago today, Anna Politkovskaya, a journalist with Novaya Gazeta and a prominent critic of the government, was shot dead in #Russia. The mastermind behind her killing must be brought to justice. Anna’s courage and commitment to independent journalism will not be forgotten.

@Fallaras, reportedly by a political party, are cause for concern. Spanish authorities should seek accountability. All political parties should work together to ensure a safe working environment for journalists.

Yesterday, I congratulated the Belarusian Association of Journalists on its 30-year anniversary. I wish the Belarusian journalists to remain steadfast in the commitment to uphold independent and ethical journalism, and the right to freedom of expression.

Today, I joined a high-level @coe.int-MFT Malta conference, discussing disinformation. To tackle this issue, we need:

These measures build trust, which is the best antidote to disinformation.

I welcome Slovak police opening criminal proceedings into the possible assassination of journalist Pavol Rypal (2008), who covered organized crime. After so many years, the renewed investigation underscores that there can be no impunity for crimes against journalists.
